Concept Introduction:

The chemical reaction in which energy is released during the formation of products is known as exothermic reactions. The energy released during the reaction is denoted by ΔH°. Exothermic and endothermic reactions are opposite to each other. The value of ΔH° for exothermic and endothermic reactions is negative and positive respectively.

Explanation

In the chemical reactions, the system comprises the molecules which react to each other. In other words, system is used to describe things which are under observation. Surrounding is another part of the universe. The region outside the boundary of the vessel, in which reaction occurs to form the product, is referred to as surrounding.

The reactions in which energy is absorbed during the formation of products is known as endothermic reactions. Hence, in the endothermic reactions, the heat travels from the surrounding into the system, which increases the temperature of the system.

The reaction will be exothermic if the reaction between ionic solutes is performed in aqueous solution and the temperature of the solution increases. It is due to the reason that during the addition of ions in water, heat is released. For example, NaCl is an ionic solute, which dissolves in water and the temperature of the solution is increased
