Question
Chapter 13, Problem 1RQ
To determine
The name of two functions that the digital computer can perform when used with the feedback control system.
Expert Solution & Answer
Explanation of Solution
Control system has changed the way various industries were operating. It gives a precise controlling method by which we can get the desired output. But the digital control system has added an extra mile in the production industry because the digital control system enables the user to set the required output parameter in just one click. The operator can see all the parametric arrangement on the screen of a computer and process that for production in one click.
Two functions that the digital computer can perform when used with the feedback control system are as follows:
- Lead and lag compensation Control: Digital computers in the feedback loop can control the lead and lag compensators. As we know that if the bandwidth is smaller than the acceptable bandwidth then lead compensator is used. Lag compensators are used when bandwidth is large while the open loop control system is stable.
- Initiating safety shutdown: Control functions are of primary interests while using digital computers in the feedback loop. In the situation of any accident or fault in the system digital computer in the feedback loop can initiate the safety shutdown.
