Correlation

It is given that if the null hypothesis is rejected then there is a causal relationship between the two categorical variables.

In chi-square test of independence the hypotheses are given below:

H0: The two variables are independent to each other.

Ha: The two variables are dependent to each other.

Here, if the null hypothesis is rejected then it can be said that the two variables are dependent.

If in a relationship, the occurrence of the 1st variable causes the 2nd variable, it can be said that there is a causal relationship between the two variables.

Therefore, it is clear that if two variables are dependent, that does not imply about causal relationship between the two variables.

Therefore, the statement is false.
