# SKILLS39-42 Partial Sums Find the first six partial sums S 1 , S 2 , S 3 , S 4 , S 5 and S 6 of the sequence whose nth terms is given.39. 1 , 3 , 5 , 7 , …

To determine

The first six partial sums of the sequence 1,3,5,7,

Explanation

Approach:

For the sequence,

a1,a2,...,an

The partial sums are,

S1=a1

S2=a1+a2

Sn=a1+a2+...+an

Calculation:

Consider the sequence,

1,3,5,7,

Each following terms is 2 more than its previous term so next term can be obtained with addition of 2 in previous value.

The first six partial sums of the sequence are,

S1=1

S2=1+3=4

S3=1+3+5=9

S4=1+3+5+7=16
