Introduction:

Type IV is T-cell-mediated hypersensitivity and is also known as delayed reaction hypersensitivity. This type of hypersensitivity may affect any individual. It results from continuous exposure of the membrane to chemical substances which results in synthesis and accumulation of large number of T lymphocytes in skin. These lymphocytes eventually get activated. The action of macrophages along with T lymphocytes causes release of various factors which cause inflammation and eruption of skin. This takes around two to four days to begin thus it is called delayed hypersensitivity.
