Answer to Problem 1CC

“A system is a group of interrelated, or interdependent, parts that constitute a complex whole.” Some of the examples for a system are the Earth system, solar system and ecosystem.

Explanation of Solution

A system consists of different parts that may interact directly or indirectly. Our Earth itself can be best expressed as the Earth system where the various spheres like the hydrosphere, atmosphere, biosphere and geosphere along with forces of Earth interact each other for its stability and existence. The Earth system includes many subsystems out of which the hydrologic cycle, carbon cycle and rock cycle are good examples.

The solar system includes the working and interaction of all the planets, stars and other elements of this system. In the ecosystem, the biological community interacts with the physical environment around them.
