Concept Introduction:

A solution is made up of mainly two components one is solute and other is solution. Any solute and solvent will form a solution is depend on the “like dissolve like” principle. The polar solute only dissolve in polar solvent and a non-polar solute only dissolve in a non-polar solvent.

Explanation

A solution is represented as a homogenous mixture of solutes and solvent. The polar solute can only dissolve in polar solvent and a non-polar solute can only dissolve in a non-polar solvent. The ionic solids are polar in nature and water is also polar in nature that is why an ionic solute such as NaCl dissolves in water to form a solution. The ionic solute and water can easily interact with each other. The strong bonding forces in a crystal of ionic solute overcome during the formation of the solution because the energy of solvation of an ionic solute is sufficient to overcome the ionic bonding force. The water molecules surround the ions in a solution that is why the ions do not attract each other so strongly as to reconstitute the ionic solute.
