Explanation refers to the conclusion of an elaboration model that suggests the original relationship is false. Interpretation is when it is concluded that the constant variable is necessary for the independent variable to affect the dependent variable. Specification is when a relationship between variables is valid only for some subgroups, and specific conditions are needed for replication to occur.
