Textbook Problem

How are eolian erosion and transportation processes similar to fluvial erosion and transportation processes, and how do they differ?

To determine

The way in which aeolian erosion and transportation processes are similar to fluvial erosion and transportation. Also, describe the way in which they differ.

Explanation

Since both air and water are fluids, aeolian processes have many things in common with fluvial processes. Aeolian erosion processes are similar to fluvial erosion process in having abrasion and a process of simple entrainment. The erosional process that occurs by the action of wind is known as deflation and by water is known as hydraulic action.

However, due to the fundamental differences between gases and liquids, a few major differences also exist between gases and liquids. For instance, rock forming materials cannot dissolve in air as in water. Therefore, there is no aeolian equivalent for fluvial corrosion. Also, due to the absence of dissolved load, wind cannot move the sediments in the solution...
