Textbook Problem

If you are given three different capacitors C1, C2, and C3, how many different combinations of capacitance can you produce, using all capacitors in your circuits?

To determine

The possible combinations of three capacitors.

Explanation

Any two or more capacitors can either be connected in series or parallel combination.

For parallel combination, the equivalent capacitance is,

Ceq=C1+C2+.....+Cn

For series combination, the equivalent capacitance is,

1Ceq=1C1+1C2+....+1Cn

Conclusion:

The combinations are as follows,

• C1,C2 and C3 are in series.
• C1,C2 and C3 are in parallel.
• Series combination of C1 and C2 in series with C3
