The important groups of Paleozoic marine animals that were absent from Triassic seas.
Answer to Problem 1RQ
The important groups of Paleozoic marine animals that were absent from Triassic seas are fusulinid foraminifera, Lacy bryozoans, Rugose and tabulate corals, and Trilobites.
Explanation of Solution
The Paleozoic Era completed after the great mass extinction at the end of the Permian Period about 252 million years ago. Therefore, when the Triassic period began, many marine life forms became extinct. These extinct marine animals were fusulinid foraminifera, Lacy bryozoans, Rugose and tabulate corals, and Trilobites.
The mass extinction caused immediate reemergence of stromatolites and thrombolites in shallow subtidal environments. These structures survived during the early Triassic time, but later were eaten and burrowed by the animals.
