Both contusion and concussion are life threatening conditions. The differences between concussion and contusion are given as follows:

Contusion Concussion
Contusion is a kind of bruise that occurs as an extravasation of blood under the skin layer. Concussion occurs as the result of trauma or injury in the head.
It occurs anywhere in the body and it is painful. A temporary consciousness and violent blowing to the head causes concussion and occurs only when the head is injured.
It is a localized lesion and increases the risk of embolism and thrombosis. It is the kind of brain trauma in which large area of the brain is injured.
