Chapter 17, Problem 1DAA
Summary Introduction

To determine: The town with most of the rats susceptible to warfarin.

Introduction: Rodenticides are the pesticides that have a capability to kill the whole rodent species. Rodents have their own importance in nature but sometimes require some control over their population, as they could transmit disease, destroy crops, and may cause ecological damage. Warfarin is a common anticoagulant that could be used as a rodenticide to kill mice and rats. After the discovery, warfarin has been widely used and later it resulted in the development of species of warfarin-resistant mice and rats.

Lion populations are found all over sub- Saharan africa. How do the sequences above reinforce or contradict the idea that populations of lions who are genetically similar live in the same geographic area?
Albinism is rare in most human populations, occurring at a frequency of about 1 in 20,000 people. However, the trait occurs at a frequency of 1 in 200 in certain Hopi villages of Black Mesa in Arizona. In light of this example and others that you might be aware of, what can you conclude about particular alleles such as the allele for albinism? Any allele that leads to an abnormal phenotype will be rare in most populations but common in Native American populations. Alleles that produce abnormal phenotypes are never beneficial. An allele that leads to an abnormal phenotype may be beneficial in some environments but harmful in others. An allele that leads to an abnormal phenotype will rise in frequency after many generations. An allele that leads to an abnormal phenotype will soon disappear from a population.
An hypothesis for the extinction of the dinosaurs is that the earth had been hit by a gigantic meteor that caused the death of those big reptiles. In that case the entire genetic pool of those animals has been destroyed, invalidating the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. In Genetics what is this type of gene frequency change called?
