Explanation of Solution

Digestive system involves the process of food breakdown with the help of digestive organ, so the nutrients present in food can be absorbed by the cells in body. The functions of digestive system are as follows;

Ingestion:

it occurs when the foods and liquids enter in the digestive tract via mouth.

Mechanical processing:

it involves crushing of food with tongue, tearing and crushing with the teeth. Grinding, churning and crushing and propulsive moments provides by the alimentary canal aids the mechanical processing after ingestion.

Digestion:

it is chemical and enzymatic breakdown of food into carbohydrates, lipids and proteins. Small organic molecules are absorbed by the digestive epithelium of stomach and intestines.

Excretion:

it involves removal of indigested waste product after digestion

Conclusion

Digestive system helps in food break down into small molecule like carbohydrate, fat and protein that provide nutrition to each cell in the body and undigested waste material is excrete out from the body.
