The molecular formula of
Concept introduction:
In the bond line formula, the labels for individual carbon atoms are omitted. The bonds between carbon atoms are shown by lines. Thus, each line has one carbon atom at each end unless some other atom is shown.
The electrons shared by the atom are counted, and if the octet of the atom is incomplete, then the number of electrons required to complete the octet are determined. These electrons are shown as unshared electrons pairs.
To determine the molecular formula, the number of carbon and hydrogen atoms is counted. Other atoms, if any, are counted and written in alphabetical order.
The number of atoms of each element is written as a subscript.
