Introduction:
In today's organizations, failure to adjust to work has become a major problem. It is estimated that average of 80 and 90 percent of industrial accidents are caused due to personal factors. Absenteeism, turnover, alcoholism, drug abuse and sabotage remain relatively permanent fixtures of most contemporary work organizations.
Explanation of Solution
Five problems related to employee work adjustment are described below:
- Some people lack their motivation to work that makes a negative conception of the work role and therefore these people choose to avoid it.
- Some people have characteristics of being predominant by open hostility and aggression that create difficulty in work adjustment for them.
- Some people whose predominating response to the demand to be productive is fear or anxiety.
- Some employees are characterized by their marked dependency which exhibit their characteristic of helplessness. They constantly seek advice from others and are unable to initiateany of their own action.
- Some employees display a marked degree of social naivete. These individuals lack perception when it comes to the needs and feelings of others and may not realize that their behavior elicits reactions from and has an effect on others. Typically, these people are socially inept and unaware of appropriate behavior in ordinary social situations.
