Biochemically, carbohydrates are known as the saccharides. There are four types of saccharides present, viz.
1. Monosaccharides.
2. Disaccharides.
3. Oligosaccharides.
4. Polysaccharides.
Following are the common sources of the carbohydrates:
1. Cereals such as wheat, maize, and rice.
2. Potatoes.
3. Sugarcane.
4. Fruits.
5. Table sugar.
7. Milk
8. Meat.
9. Molasses.
10. Honey.
Carbohydrates can be consumed in simple as well as the in the complexed form. Cellulose is a type of complex carbohydrate, which is found in a plentiful amount in our food. We cannot digest cellulose and thus it acts as roughage in our diet and facilitates the digestion process.
