Concept Introduction:

The radiation is the radioactive source of energy having high frequency which can damage the human cell and is harmful for human beings. When a nuclei of an atom undergoes the radioactive decay, the particles like alpha, beta, and gamma are formed as by products.

The radioactive decay of alpha particles results in decrease in the mass number by 4 and atomic number by 2 and decay of beta particles results in increase in the atomic number by 1 and no change in atomic mass number. Gamma decay is only release of energy and the number of proton remains the same.

Explanation

Three types of radioactive particles such as alpha, beta and gamma particles are present. The penetrating power of alpha beta and gamma are present in increasing order as follows:
