The magnitude of the resultant force applied to the bracket by members A and B is 21.7945kN

The resultant force vector will be at an angle of 73.4145° from the horizontal.

Given information:

The force in member A is 15kN and force in member B is 10kN.

Write the expression for law of cosines.

Write the expression for sine law.

sin(20°+α)A=sinθR ...... (II)

Here, angle made by the resultant with vertical is α ,and angle made by the forces A and B is θ.

Write the expression for the angle made by the resultant with the horizontal.

φ=90°α ...... (III)

Calculation:

Substitute the value 15kN for A, 10kN for B and 120° for θ in Equation (I)

R2=(15kN)2+(10kN)22(15kN)(10kN)cos120°R2=(225kN2+100kN2(300)(0.5)kN2)R2=475kN2R=21.7945kN

Substitute the value 21.7945kN for R, 120° for θ and 15kN for A in Equation (II)

sin(20+α)15kN=sin120°21.7945kNsin(20+α)=(0.866)(15kN)21.7945kN20+α=0.596α=16.5855°

Substitute the value 16.5855° for α in Equation (III)

φ=90°16.5855°=73.4145°

Conclusion:

The magnitude of the resultant of the forces applied to the brackets is 21.7945kN.

The resultant force vector will be at an angle of 73.4145° from the horizontal.
