The chloride (Cl) ion has 1- charge. So, the chlorides formed by two platinum ions are,

Pt2+ ion has 2+ charge, so two chloride (Cl) ions are required to balance the net zero charge of platinum chloride.

Hence, the ionic compound is formed by Pt2+ and Cl is PtCl2
