Question
Chapter 20, Problem 20.38QP
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:  For the given transmutation reactions, mass numbers of the two isotopes of element 115 should be determined

Concept Introduction:

The adaptation of one chemical element from another chemical element by the collision of two particles is called nuclear transmutation. By the nuclear transmutation, number of protons or neutrons in the nucleus is changed.

On accordance with law of conservation of mass, for any chemical reaction, total masses of reactant and product must be equal.

To determine: The mass number of isotope of element 115 when three neutrons and four neutrons are produced by the bombardment of americium-243 with calcium-48.
