Chapter 20.5, Problem 3AYLO
Summary Introduction
To discuss:
The causes, effects, and differences between a transient ischemic attack (TIA) and cerebral vascular accident (stroke).
Introduction:
When compared to other organs, the brain receives less blood (of the overall blood flow), around 700 ml/min at rest of the overall blood flow. Even though the less amount of blood is received by the brain, that less volume of blood is important as it has more reliability. If blood is cut off from the brain, within few seconds it leads to oxygen deprivation and loss of consciousness occurs. This causes a major damage, if the brain is not re-supplied with oxygen within five minutes (anoxia).
