In March 2009, in one of the most significant and controversial reversals of previous policy, newly inaugurated U.S. President Barack Obama signed an executive order to permit federal funding for human embryonic stem cell research. The ensuing debate continues to rage in both congress and culture, centering around the following questions: At what point does human life begin?
