To determine

The differences in the domains of Bacteria and Archaea.

Answer to Problem 1CQ

The differences between the domains of bacteria and archaea lie in their habitat, cell wall, and methods of growth and reproduction.

Explanation of Solution

No.CharacteristicsBacteriaArchaea
1. Habitat Bacteria are mostly found in soil, waste water, sewage, food products (curd), waste of animals, and inside the bodies of plants and animals. Archaebacteria are found in extreme conditions such as salt lakes, hot springs, and marshlands.
2. Cell wall The cell wall of bacteria consists of peptidoglycans and lipopolysaccharides. The cell wall of archaebacteria consists of pseudo peptidoglycans.
3. Growth and reproduction Bacteria can reproduce by both asexual and sexual reproduction. Archebacteria mostly reproduces asexually by budding, binary fission, and fragmentation.
