Concept introduction:

The amino acids are the building blocks of protein molecules. The amino acid contains amino group $\left(-{\text{NH}}_{\text{2}}\right)$, a carboxylic acid group $\left(-\text{COOH}\right)$ and side chain $\left(-\text{R}\right)$. When proteins are broken down, amino acids are produced.
