Chapter 22.2, Problem 10AYLO
Summary Introduction
To discuss:
The roles of elastic recoil of the thorax during expiration and discuss the intrapulmonary pressure changes relative to atmospheric pressure during expiration.
Introduction:
Respiration is also known as breathing and includes two processes which are inspiration and expiration. Inspiration is also known as breathing in and expiration is called as breathing out. The elastic recoil is because of the collagen and elastic tissues of the lungs. This recoil is also because of the surface tension of the fluid that lines the alveoli. Elastic recoil denotes the bounce of the lungs after having been stretched by inhalation.
