Concept Introduction:

Feedback inhibition refers to the inhibition of enzymatic activity by the final product formed at the end of sequence of reactions. Without this mechanism, product is produced more than what is required.

Organisms spend energy in each step of biosynthesis of amino acids or nucleotides. The biosynthetic pathway, being long and complex, has a high energy requirement. Feedback inhibition plays a role in each step of regulating the pathway, thereby regulating, reducing or saving the energy.
