Textbook Problem

Which of the following is the least likely cause of a no-start condition?

  1. Faulty CKP sensor

  • Faulty KS
  • Fuel or ignition system faults
  • Faulty PCM wiring
  • Expert Solution
    To determine

    The correct option.

    Explanation of Solution

    Given information:

The cause of no -start condition could include:

    1. Faulty CKP sensor
    2. Faulty KS.
    3. Fuel or ignition system faults.
    4. Faulty PCM wiring.

CKP is a sensor which helps in positioning of the engine crankshaft. It helps in measuring the rotational speed of crankshaft. Absence of the crankshaft sensor does not allow the starting of the engine.

It is installed nearby the main pulley, in some other vehicle it is installed in transmission housing and in some company install it near the cylinder of an engine.

To provide a reference position of crankshaft to PCM there is one or more missing teeth.

When the crankshaft rotates, the CKP sensor produces a signal which is based on pulsed voltage. These pulse voltages are used to pass signal to reluctor ring

attached to the crankshaft. This ring is made up with teeth, there are two missing teeth used to provide a reference to the PCM for positioning CKP sensor. When the spark is to be produced is determined by the PCM when it receives signal from the sensor. This helps in deciding the cylinder where the spark need to be produced.

This has also helped in identifying the misfires of spark plug. If there is any kind of failure in signal producing the system will not start as there will be no spark and there is no fuel injector...
