Concept Introduction: In orbitals, there are two types of nodes present; radial and angular. The number of angular node is determined byazimuthal quantum number (l) . The principle quantum number, n tells about the number of radial nodes. The total number of nodes will be sum of these two nodes that is angular nodes and radial nodes.

Since, number of nodes is represented as

  number of nodes=n1

Therefore, the principle quantum number can be represented as follows:

  n=number of nodes+1
