When large amount of acid is released into the system, the condition called metabolic acidosis takes place. It increases the concentration of carbonic acid and lowers the blood pH. The normal pH range of blood is 7.35 to 7.45. If the pH decreases below this range, the condition is called acidosis. If the pH increases below this range, the condition is called alkalosis.
