What are the three methods of destructive testing of a welded butt joint?

To determine

The methods of destructive testing of welded butt joint.

Explanation

Destructive testing is a method used of checking performance of a sample. It explains the behavior of the specimen using different loads. This test is less complex than NDT testing as it provides more information's which can be easily understood. Destructive testing of a butt weld can be done using three tests. They are: -

  1. Nick-break destructive testing
  2. Guide-bend test
  3. Free-bend test.

Nick-break test:

Nick-break destructive testing is a method of testing butt joint weld. This test uses a hammer for applying force to rupture the specimen. Hammering produce sound which helps in identifying the strength. This test tells about the quality and performance of a specimen.
