Define the term slip.

To determine

Explain the term slip.

Explanation of Solution

Under full-load condition, the relative speed between a stator magnetic field and a rotor is known as the slip.

The slip (S) of an induction motor is as follows:

S=NsNrNs

Here

Ns is speed of magnetic field (synchronous speed), and

Nr is rotor speed.

Slip S=0 when the motor rotor is running at the speed of synchronous speed, and slip S=1 when the motor rotor is at the stationary position (rotor is stationary)
