Technician A says that a faulty MAF sensor can cause the engine to run lean. Technician B says that a faulty MAP sensor can cause the engine to not start. Who is correct?

  1. Technician A

  • Technician B
  • Both A and B
  • Neither A nor B
  • Expert Solution
    To determine

    The technician with correct approach.

    Explanation of Solution

    Given information:

When testing a frequency varying MAF:

Technician A says that faulty MAF sensor can cause the engine to run lean.

Technician B that a faulty MAP sensor can cause the engine to not start.

The mass air flow sensor is used for measuring the air flow entering the engine. Engine load is calculated by measuring the intake air volume. Fuel injection, ignition system, and shift timing are controlled by using the engine load in the automatic transmission. It is present inside the assembly of the air cleaner and the throttle plate. The mass air flow sensor commonly used is the hot wire type. There are various other MAF sensors present in the market. The hot wire type is present in the stream of intake air and the air flows over this sensor. MAF sensor defects can cause the engine to run poorly.

MAF sensor depends on the frequency and speed of an engine...
