Actin based motility is present in various organisms including Listeria, Shigella, and viruses like Vaccinia. These organisms share a common thing in their life cycle which is, their life cycle has a stage within mammalian host cytoplasm. They activate parts of the actin assembly machinery of the cell. This leads to the formation of actin tails on the surface of the microbe.
