Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark
Summary Introduction

To review:

The two major functions of testes.

Introduction:

Testes are the major reproductive organs of males. The testes are situated in the scrotum. The scrotum is situated as an extension out of the body to remain at a temperature less than the body temperature, in order to provide the optimum temperature for sperm survival.

Explanation of Solution

The major roles of the testes are to function as the production site for sperms (male gametes) by the process called spermiogenesis. The spermatocytes develop in the optimum temperature to become the sperms. The testes also serve as the source for the production of hormones in the human body, especially the testosterone. The production of testosterone is seen in the cells situated in between the lobules.

The testosterone is responsible for the masculine characters of men. The testosterone plays a major role in defining the harsh and low pitched voice of men. The testes produce sperm, which acts as the heredity transport vehicle from the parents to the off spring after fertilizing the female gamete.

Conclusion

Therefore, it can be concluded that the testes play a major role in producing the hormone called testosterone. This hormone is also known as the male hormone as it defines the manly nature in the males. The sperm is produced through the process of spermiogenesis.
