Expert Solution
To determine

The explanation for components and operation of a Hall-effect sensor.

Explanation of Solution

The components of a Hall-effect sensor consists are a permanent magnet, a thin semiconductor layer known as Hall layer which is made up of gallium arsenate crystals and a shutter wheel. The hall layer has two terminals a negative terminal and a positive terminal that is connected to it. Two additional terminals are connected to it on either side which is used for the output circuit.

The permanent magnet is stationary and a there is a small air gap between it and the hall layer. The shutter wheel has alternating windows and vanes and is connected to a rotating component. As the shutter wheel revolves, the vanes and windows pass through the air gap.

When a current is applied to the Hall layer which is exposed to a magnetic field created by the permanent magnet, a voltage is developed across it which is perpendicular to both the direction of current flow and the magnetic flux...
