Question
Chapter 26.2, Problem 11AYLO
Summary Introduction
To discuss:
The mechanism of excess glucose is converted to glycogen, the body’s typical glycogen store and where these reserves are located and the processes and purposes of glycogenesis, glycogenolysis, and gluconeogenesis.
Introduction:
Liver is the primary organ that synthesizes glycogen from the excess blood glucose by the influence of hormone, insulin. This glycogen is broken-down into the glucose in post absorptive state by the influence of glucagon. The synthesis of glycogen in liver is referred as glycogenesis and breakdown of glycogen in liver is referred as glycogenolysis. The synthesis of glucose from fats and proteins is known as gluconeogenesis.
