Chapter 27.1, Problem 3C
Summary Introduction

To determine: The evidence which is in favor of the hypothesis that “plants descended from a group of green algae known as charophytes”.

Introduction: It has been hypothesized that plants have descended from a group of green algae called charophytes. Charophytes are also called stoneworts and belong to a group of freshwater algae. These charophytes are considered as most close relatives of modern land plants. Also, green algae and plants resemble each other in a variety of ways such as both groups are photosynthetic and possess chlorophyll a pigments in their chloroplast.
