If a plant’s stomata are made to stay open at all times, or closed at all times, it will die. Why?

Summary Introduction

To determine: The reason for plant death if its stomata is closed or opened all the time.

Concept introduction:

Stomata are the minute pore or small opening that arises from the kidney shaped guard cells of plant leaves. Stomata are present in the upper and lower surfaces of the leaves. They help for exchanging gases in and out of the cell and also help for transpiration (maintaining the water level in cells).

Explanation

Stomata are the major organelle that is involved in the photosynthetic reaction. Generally, stomata will be closed but only open when needed. Stomata collect carbon dioxide (for carbohydrate synthesis-photosynthesis) through the opening from the atmosphere into the cell with the exchange of oxygen. They also help in the transpiration. Transpiration is a process which allows the water molecules to escape from the leaves to the atmosphere. Water molecules escape through stomata opening. This is done for the regulation of water level in cells when water level exceeds...
