What are taps on a welding transformer?

To determine

The definition of taps on welding transformer.

Explanation of Solution

Welding transformer is used to modify the alternating current into a low voltage current from the power line. These are used in AC machines.

Depending on the brand or the trade name of a transformer, most of the transformers comprise of taps on the primary windings. These taps allow the transformer to set up according to different values on input voltages.

The taps can be divided into three phases or a single phase.

For a single phase, the taps are either 120V or 240V for the AC current
