Explanation of Solution

Consider a function f is differentiable at a domain value a, then f(a) is a real number. Then, the function f is a new function known as the derivative of the function f. The domain of the derivative function f is the set of all points in the domain of the function f in which the function f itself is differentiable.

Example:

Consider the function f(x)=2x        (1)

Substitute 0 for x in Equation (1).

f(x)=2×0=0

Substitute for x in Equation (1).

f(x)=2×=

The domain of the function f(x) is [0,)_.

Show the derivative of the function as follows:

Differentiate Equation (1) as follows:

f(x)=ddx(2x)=ddx(2x)12=[12(2x)12]×2=1x        (2)

Substitute 0 for x in Equation (2).

f(x)=10=

Substitute for x in Equation (2).

f(x)=1=0

The domain of the function f(x) is (0,)_.

Thus, the domain of the function f(x) and the derivative f(x) is different.
