Chapter 3, Problem 1PI
Summary Introduction

To determine: The compartments that constitute the entire intracellular fluid.

Introduction: A cell is the basic structural and functional unit of life. They are known as the “building blocks of life”. A typical cell includes cytoplasm and other essential organelles such as mitochondria, nucleus, chloroplast, vacuoles, and many more that have specific and vital roles in metabolic processes. The study of cells and their organelles is known as “cell biology”.

Explanation of Solution

The intracellular fluid compartment includes the overall water molecule that is present in both cytoplasm and water that is present in all the cell organelles, including the nucleus. The largest amount of intracellular fluid is however present in the cytosol. The chemical composition of water or fluids present in the organelles and nucleus varies greatly.
