The motion of a planet around the sun is given by Kepler in his 3 laws of planetary motion. Each law defines different aspect of the motion of planet.
The Kepler’s first law defines the shape of orbit of a planet around the Sun.
According to Kepler’s 1st law, the planet orbits around the sun in an elliptical path. The sun is located at the one focus of the ellipse and other focus is a point in empty space.
