The arrangement of electrons in an orbit is termed as electronic configuration. The atoms in which the orbits are completely filled are the least chemically reactive while those in which the orbits are incomplete are reactive.
The electrons present in the last orbit of the electronic configuration of an atom are called valence electrons. If two elements have the same number of valence electrons, they will have similar properties.
