Concept introduction:

Peptides are the polymers of amino acid residues. A peptide bond is formed between the amino group (NH2) of one amino acid and the carboxylic group (COOH) of the other amino acid, associated with the loss of a water molecule.

A simple amino acid contains a carboxylic group, a hydrogen atom, a side chain (R group), and an amino group. Cysteine is the amino acid that contains sulfur in its side chain.
