Summary Introduction

To explain: The way in which the shortened telomeres affect the life-span of IPSCs and differentiated cells derived from them.

Concept introduction: The undifferentiated mass of cells that can differentiate into specific cell types is called as stem cells. There are mainly two types of stem cells – Embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells.

These stem cells are found in multicellular organisms and can be cultured in laboratory. Embryonic stem cells can differentiate into nearly all types of cells found in an organism, whereas adult stem cells can only differentiate into specific cell types. ESCs are pluripotent in nature that is they can differentiate into any cell type such as into muscle cells, nerve cells, blood cells, fat cells, and so on.
