The molecule of immunoglobulin prevails as one or more duplicates of a Y-configured unit, comprising of four polypeptide chains. Each y comprises two similar copies of a heavy chain, and two similar copies of a light chain that are distinct in their arrangement and length. Both the light chain and the heavy chains of the antibody are held together with the help of disulfide bonds.
