Chapter 31.4, Problem 1TC
Summary Introduction

To determine:

The effect of isolated small reserves on the genetic diversity of endangered species.

Introduction:

Genetic diversity gives special characteristics to the species, make them unique, genetic diversity is the reason species adapt and survive in the harsh conditions. The isolated Small reserve has a small population of many species and area, due to a reduction in population and absence of gene flow can lead to reductions in the genetic diversity of endangered species, reduced genetic diversity can lead to species extinction and reduction in reproduction.

Summary Introduction

To determine:

Effects of genetic diversity on the species when small reserves are connected with wildlife corridors.

Introduction:

Genetic diversity gives special characteristics to the species, make them unique, genetic diversity is the reason species adapt and survive in the harsh conditions. The isolated Small reserve has a small area, human’s activity is not allowed there. Wildlife corridors allow the movement of species in a protective manner from one place to another. Generally, small population lose genetic diversity easily through genetic drift but wildlife corridors help them to migrate from one place to another place which helps species to reduce the genetic drift and maintain genetic diversity

Students have asked these similar questions
What types of species are associated with human disturbance? Will protecting forests from disturbances such as fire increase the diversity of the forest? (explain)
Why can reduction in species biodiversity be a problem for an ecosystem, and what are two things that humans can do to preserve or increase species biodiversity?
A conservation group has approached you to provide recommendations for purchasing land to help an endangered species and increase the overall biodiversity of a forest in a landscape that has been fragmented by agriculture. In the landscape, there are several medium to largefragments and a number of small fragments. Provide recommendations to the conservation group about where in the landscape they should devote their limited resources for a maximum impact. Justify your recommendations based on metapopulation dynamics of the endangered forest breeding species and island biogeographytheory (overall biodiversity). A diagram supplementing your written answer is encouraged.
