Answer to Problem 78PQ

The electric power in the circuit at t=0 is (πr2)2B02R.

Explanation of Solution

Write the expression for the induced emf.

    ε=dϕBdt                                                                                                        (I)

Here, ε is the induced emf  and ϕB is the magnetic flux.

Write the expression for the magnetic flux.

    ϕB=B(t)A                                                                                                     (II)

Here, B(t) is the time varying magnetic field and A is the area of the loop.

Write the expression for the electric power.

    P=ε2R                                                                                                           (III)

Here, P is the electric power and R is the resistance.

Substitute B(t)A for ϕB in the equation (I).

  ε=d(B(t)A)dt                                                                                             (IV)

Substitute B0et for B(t) and πr2 for A in the equation (IV).

    ε=d(B0et)dt(πr2)

Here, r is the radius of the circular loop, t is the time and B0 is the constant.

Differentiate the above equation with respect to time.

  ε=d(B0et)dt(πr2)=(B0et)(1)(πr2)=(πr2)B0et

Conclusion:

Substitute (πr2)B0et for ε in the equation (III).

    P=((πr2)B0e1)2R=(πr2)2B02e2tR                                                                                       (V)

Substitute 0 for t in the equation (V) to find P.

    P=(πr2)2B02e2(0)R=(πr2)2B02R

Therefore, the electric power in the circuit at t=0 is (πr2)2B02R.
