Concept explainers
Midterm–final
a. Find the predicted final exam score for a student who has (i) midterm score = 100, (ii) midterm score = 50. Note that in each case the predicted final exam score regresses toward the mean of 75. (This is a property of the regression equation that is the origin of its name, as Chapter 12 will explain.)
b. Show that the correlation equals 0.60 and interpret it. (Hint: Use the relation between the slope and correlation.)

- You are attempting to predict grade point average based on the amount a student drinks. You calculate a simple regression and get a slope coefficient (b) of -.15. What does this slope coefficient mean?arrow_forwardData were recorded for 117 months on a household's gas bill (in dollars) and the average monthly temperatures for its neighborhood. The mean monthly temperature was 48.7°F with a standard deviation of 20.6. The mean gas bill price was $81.20 with a standard deviation of 66.5. The correlation coefficient between monthly temperature and gas bill price is -0.92. 22) Determine the correct value of the slope for the linear model that predicts gas bill price from monthly temperature and interpret it in context. The slope is - 2.97. For every one degree increase in monthly temperature, the gas bill price is predicted to decrease by $2.97. The slope is - 0.28. For every one degree increase in monthly temperature, the gas bill price is predicted to decrease by $0.28. The slope is - 2.97. For every one dollar increase in gas bill price, the monthly temperature is predicted to decrease by 2.97°. The slope is - 0.28. The regression equation is reported asˆy=59.31x+26.22y^=59.31x+26.22and r=0.161r=0.161.What proportion of the variation in yy can be explained by the linear regression equation found above?arrow_forwardDevelop the relationship between correlation coefficient and regression coefficient. Mention the applications of correlation and regression.arrow_forwardThe following data table shows the historical data for the first semester 2020, of the amount of sales of the company "IRC", which sells sneakers. Utilizing multiple lineal regression (as shown on the image), find an equation that estimates the number of sneakers sold by the company, based on advertising and revenue. Also, determine the standard error of estimation, the coefficient of determination, and the correlation coefficient.
